Beauty Teas on the Rocks

Happy National Iced Tea Day!
Any guesses to how we’ll be celebrating? You guessed it, with our age-defying iced beauty teas, of course! Each refreshing sip delivers skin-loving antioxidants for glowing complexions that start from within.

hydrate mi beauty tea: Green rooibos contains nine different types of skin-aging fighting flavonoids and essential electrolytes to hydrate from within. Goji berries are rich in Vitamin C, necessary for collagen production.
de-stress mi beauty tea: Peppermint uplifts and rejuvenates the mind. Chinese liquorice and chamomile blossoms provide anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and purify from within.

Here’s an updated version of our beloved iced tea recipe featuring our skin-boosting premium loose-leaf tea blends.


Serves 1

● 1-2 tablespoons of MIYU’s premium loose-leaf hydrate mi tea or de-stress mi tea

● 6 oz. of filtered water

● 1 tsp of agave or honey (optional)

● 1 cup of ice

● mint, strawberries or raspberries (optional)



1. Boil 6 oz of filtered water, then steep 1-2 tablespoons of tea in the boiled water for 10-12 minutes (the longer the better).

2. To sweeten, add 1 tsp of agave nectar or honey. Stir until the agave/honey is completely dissolved.

3. Top with 1 cup of ice.

4. Garnish with mint (de-stress mi), or strawberries and/or raspberries (hydrate-mi).

5. Stir and enjoy!

A skin-saving smoothie bowl… featuring Dragonfruit, strawberries & kiwis

Hello lovelies!

Now that it’s spring, we are super excited to incorporate a wide variety of fresh fruits into our diet again, and what better way to do so than through a gorgeous smoothie bowl? Today’s Beauty Eats post features a quick way to drink in your antioxidants, plus get some added probiotics! Here are their beauty benefits…

Strawberries: Providing one of the best sources of Vitamin C, strawberries are at the top of our beauty foods chart. This little berry has soothing capabilities as well – all the more reason to add them to your smoothie!

Kiwis: Did you know that kiwis contain 5x more Vitamin C and 8x more Vitamin E, than an equivalent amount of orange? Vitamin C provides super antioxidant power and vitamin E aids in cellular repair.

Dragon Fruit: Rich in vitamin C, B1, B2 and B3, and minerals such as iron, calcium, and phosphorus, this super fruit also helps reduce bad cholesterol. The fresh watery sweetness of this fruit is also perfect for spring and summer months!

Probiotic Greek Yogurt: If you suffer from skin sensitivities, recent studies have shown consuming probiotics can strengthen the skin barrier, resulting in skin that’s more resilient against potential irritants. The Chinese believe nurturing gut health is the best way to ensure healthy complexions.

Soy Milk: Soy milk contains all nine essential amino acids, which your body needs to assemble new proteins, necessary for immune function and cell energy. It is also rich in B-vitamins, a requirement for healthy, youthful skin.

Dragon Fruit Strawberry Smoothie Bowl
Servings: 3 – 4
Time: 10 minutes

● 2 cups frozen strawberries
● 1/2 cup cubed kiwi
● 1/2 cup cubed dragon fruit
● 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
● 1 cup soy milk
● 1/2 cup hydrate mi beauty tea
● 2 ripe bananas
● 1/2 cup ice

1. Steep 1 tsp of MIYU’s hydrate mi beauty tea in 1/2 cup of hot water for 5 minutes.
2. Add all ingredients, including the steeped tea, into the blender, and blend until smooth.
3. Garnish with fresh fruits and/or granola. Enjoy!

Goji on the Rocks


A cocktail that’s sure to spruce up any summer social! Try our goji on the rocks iced tea recipe. We guarantee your guests will be saying, “more please!”


Serves 6


6 sachets MIYU’s hydrate mi tea
4.5 cup of hot water
4 cups of ice
3 oz Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur
12 oz Ceres pear juice
berries for garnish (optional)
ice to serve



1. Steep 6 sachets of tea in 4.5 cups of hot water for 30 minutes minimum (the longer the better, overnight if possible).

2. Add 4 cups of ice to chill. Place in freezer to chill quicker.

3. To serve cocktails: Mix 3 oz of chilled tea + 2 oz of pear juice + 1/2 oz Chambord liqueur + ice in cocktail shaker

4. Shake well and strain.

5. Serve over ice and add berries for garnish.

6. Enjoy!

Mint to Refresh


Chill out with our fresh mint iced tea recipe. Featuring MIYU’s de-stress mi beauty tea, this refreshing brew is decidedly delicious!

Serves 1


1 sachet MIYU’s de-stress mi tea
1 cup of hot water
1 cup of ice
1 tsp of agave nectar (optional)
mint garnish (optional)


1. Steep 1 sachet of tea in 1 cup of hot water for 30 minutes (the longer the better).

2. To sweeten: Add 1 tsp of agave to hot water mixture & stir before placing in fridge to cool.

3. Add 1 cup of ice. Stir.

4. Garnish with mint.

6. Stir and enjoy!

Sparkling Snow Pear

Beat the heat with our sparkling snow pear iced tea recipe. This summer sipper is light, fruity and absolutely delicious! Warning: you can’t have just one!


Serves 1


1 sachet MIYU’s hydrate mi tea
1 cup of hot water
1 cup of ice
1/2 cup of sparkling water
1 tsp of agave nectar (optional)
lemon or berries for garnish (optional)


1. Steep 1 sachet of tea in 1 cup of hot water for 30 minutes (the longer the better).

2. To sweeten: Add 1 tsp of agave to hot water mixture & stir before placing in fridge to cool.

3. Add 1 cup of ice. Stir.

4. Add 1/2 cup of sparkling water.

5. Garnish with lemon or berries.

6. Stir and enjoy!

The lazy, hazy days of summer are finally here! Needless to say, you are going to need a go-to recipe that is easy to throw together, saves you time in the kitchen, keeps you cool but also packs a ton of nutrition. Well, I’m here to make all your wildest dreams come true!



Meet your new favourite summer salad. This dish is full of seasonal produce, doesn’t require you to cook a thing and comes together in 15 minutes flat. It is vegetarian, gluten-free and served cold, so it is super refreshing. But the best part is that this salad is outrageously good for your skin, which is so important during these summer months where all that sunshine can certainly take it’s toll. So here’s how the ingredients in this Chickpea, Avocado & Feta Salad will help you maintain that glowing complexion all summer long:




Avocados: These are high in antioxidants that protect your skin from environmental damage and wrinkles. Avocados are also a great source of Vitamin C, which helps create collagen and elastin, which maintain the firmness of our skin.


Lime Juice: Limes contain natural antibiotic properties so they are great for fighting back against bacteria that may cause acne. They are also high in Vitamin C, which again, helps maintain the firmness of our skin.


Parsley: This herb is high in beta-carotene, which is great for our skin’s elasticity. Beta-carotene also speeds up healing, so we can say goodbye to those pesky blemishes sooner rather than later!


Cucumber: Since cucumbers are 95 percent water, they are great for hydrating your skin. Cucumbers are also high in fibre, magnesium and potassium, which may help to reduce inflammation of the skin.


Green Onion: Can you believe that a single serving of green onions contain 259% of our daily value of Vitamin K? It’s true! Our skin needs Vitamin K to fight wrinkles and stay soft.



Convinced you should give it a try? You won’t regret it and neither will your skin. Here’s the recipe:



Chickpea, Avocado & Feta Salad
Servings: 3 – 4
Time: 15 minutes

● 1 can or 19 oz. Chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
● ½ English Cucumber (chopped)
● 4 Green Onions (diced)
● ¼ cup Parsley (finely diced)
● 1 Avocado (peeled and diced)
● 1 Lime (juiced)
● ¼ cup Feta or Goat Cheese (crumbled)
● 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
● Sea Salt and Black Pepper (to taste)
1. Combine all ingredients together in a bowl and toss. Divide into bowls and enjoy!

Welcome Summer with MIYU’s Refreshing Iced Beauty Teas!


After a long winter, and rainy spring, it’s so nice to officially welcome the first day of summer! Today marks the sunniest day of the year – and what better way to enjoy it than with a glass of our iced hydrate mi tea or de-stress mi tea. If you haven’t had a chance to try it yet, here’s our coveted recipe that’ll surely have you coming back for more.


Perfect for a little “mi” time, or, share it with friends at your next backyard tea party.


Serves 1


1 sachet MIYU’s hydrate mi tea or de-stress mi tea

½ cup of hot water

1.5 tsp of agave nectar

1.5 cups of ice



1. Steep 1 sachet of tea in 1/2 cup of hot water for 30 minutes (the longer the better).

2. Add 1.5 tsp of agave nectar. Stir.

3. Add 1.5 cups of ice. Stir.

4. Enjoy!

Skin Booster Smoothie

Smoothies are an integral part of my morning routine. And when I say “integral,” I really mean it! I don’t think a day has gone by where I haven’t had a smoothie for breakfast or for a mid-morning snack. I’m a little obsessed. So why the obsession with smoothies? Well, it’s the easiest way for me to get a few servings of fruit and veggies and start the day off on the right note. As much as I love eggs or coconut flour pancakes or a warm bowl of oatmeal, I need some blended goodness to start my day. Only problem is that since I make smoothies a lot, I tend to get into a rut with the ingredients. Lately, smoothie du jour has been half a banana blended with an apple, celery and some greens with a dash of protein powder. It’s good, but it’s a bit boring. Time to make something a bit more inspired with this skin booster smoothie…



Skin booster smoothie? Will it really boost your skin? Well, there’s no miraculous drink that will change your skin overnight, but this smoothie will probably help you take a step in the right direction. I firmly believe that healthy skin is more about what you eat than it is about the products you use. I haven’t had the best skin (thanks to my Indian genes) growing up and I’ve tried everything under the sun, but in vain. I even spent close to a thousand dollars before my wedding on skincare packages at a popular beauty salon. Talk about spending some serious cash on something that didn’t help much! Anyway, my skin didn’t really improve until I tweaked my diet. What did I tweak? I just started eating more whole fruits and veggies. It was that simple.  Just two servings per meal did the trick.  I wish I had known that before – I could have saved a lot of $$$.



While there’s obviously more to healthy skin than fruits and vegetables, they do form a basis for a skin boosting diet. So what’s this smoothie got that will help boost your skin?


Watermelon: You know the antioxidant lycopene? The one you hear about all the time in the news and the papers? Well, it turns out that tomatoes aren’t the only source of this antioxidant. Watermelons have a fair bit of lycopene and a recent study showed that watermelon lycopene had higher antioxidant activity than tomatoes. Just keep in mind that to absorb lycopene, you need a bit of fat or oil with your meal. So if you intend on having this smoothie without anything else, you probably won’t absorb the lycopene effectively. I recommend having something with fats on the side. Eggs, coconut oil, yogurt – whatever you like. Just eat some fat…
Strawberries: We all know that strawberries are a great source of vitamin C, but there’s more to strawberries than that. They are high in manganese, which is a required co-factor for an enzyme called prolidase, which necessary to make collagen. Good production of collagen = healthy, supple skin.
Beets: Beets are rich in phytochemicals called betalains (which give beets their characteristic colour). These betalains are anti-inflammatory and can also help slow down the aging of the skin due to free radicals due to their anti-oxidant activity.


I wasn’t sure if this smoothie would taste as pretty as it looks, but it sure does. Even my husband agrees! His exact words were “heaven in a glass”. Hmm, not sure about that, but it’s pretty darn good.


Note that you can sweeten it a bit if you need it. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth anymore, so the natural sweetness of the fruits is good for me, but if you need a little extra sweetness, I recommend using raw honey, maple syrup or stevia extract.



  • 1 small red beet, peeled and cubed (raw or steamed, depending on how powerful your blender is)
  • 1 cup watermelon, cubed
  • 3/4 cup strawberries, frozen
  • 1/3 cup cucumber, cubed
  • 1 meyer lemon, juiced (or 1/2 regular lemon, juiced)
  • sweetener of choice, to taste (optional)


  1. Blend all the ingredients and enjoy!

Notes: Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Soy-free, Vegan, Paleo

Yummy Zucchini Chips sans the Guilt!


Welcome to another edition of Beauty Eats!


Today, we’ll be featuring a recipe from my dear friend, Nicole.  I worked with Nicole years ago, while I was developing beauty products for Bliss in New York City – we’ve been friends ever since!  Not only is Nicole quirky, funny and an all-around cutie, having worked in the beauty industry for more than a decade, she certainly knows what’s good for your skin.  Today, she’s going to be sharing her Zucchini Chips recipe with us.


So, without further ado…here’s Nicole!


Even though I LOVE food, I’m not exactly what you would call a “foodie.”  In fact, I’m quite particular in the types of foods I like – of which, I make it a personal mission to seek out only the best.   Once I’ve found it, I believe everyone should LOVE it just as much as I do (or at least in my mind)!


So, got the munchies but trying to be healthy? I must admit, I really enjoy foods that aren’t good for me, which is why I’m constantly searching for foods/recipes that are healthier, but still taste quite good.  Let’s face it, my bootcamp classes can’t bare the entire burden of my unhealthier snack choices.  Gotta create balance somehow, right?


About a month ago, I had to go on this 30 day cleanse where I had to eliminate EVERYTHING from my diet – dairy, wheat, sugar, fruit, alcohol, and anything that ferments.  I literally thought I was going to starve for 30 days, but I survived, and found some new favourite healthy foods to add to my post 30 day torture!


The following Zucchini Chips recipe is one of them.  They’re gluten free, dairy free and low carb – not to mention the amazing beauty benefits from the ingredients…I know right?  The coating also works for chicken as well  – anyone else grow up on shake and bake??


Serves 4
1/4 cup ground almonds
1 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp seasoned salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp fat-free milk or 1 egg
2 1/2 cups (1/4 inch-thick) slices zucchini (about 2 small)
Cooking spray



Step 1: Preheat oven to 425F. Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk.



Step 2: Place milk in a shallow bowl. Dip zucchini slices in milk and dredge in dry mixture.



Step 3: Place coated slices on an oven proof wire rack coated with cooking spray; place rack on a baking sheet. Bake at 425F for 30 minutes or until browned and crisp. Serve immediately.




Zucchini: Zucchinis are high in dietary fiber, which is necessary for optimal intestinal health (and thus, skin health).  Vitamins C and A work to provide antioxidant and skin-soothing benefits. Zucchinis also contain manganese, which has the ability to augment levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a powerful free-radical scavenging enzyme.  SOD has been used extensively in skincare as a powerful anti-aging ingredient.  Manganese also facilitates the production of proline, the amino acid that promotes the production of collagen, to help build stronger, more resilient skin.


Almonds: Did you know that almonds are considered one of the most ‘nutritionally-dense’ nuts?  Yup, with flavonoids and skin-healing Vitamin E, you’ll be happy they made their way into this yummy snack!


Milk: We all know milk “does a body good” because it helps strengthen bones.  However, did you know that it also contributes to smooth skin and a stronger immune system?  Brimming with Vitamins A, B, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc, milk will literally nourish complexions from the inside out.


I’ve been making these zucchini chips everyday since I discovered them!  Now I’m not saying they are an exact replacement for chips, but they are a great option for when you want that salty crunch sans the guilt!  Cut thinly for more of a chip-like crunch.  These make a great snack for when the girls come over to watch The Voice.  What can I say – it’s just not in me to eat unhealthy snacks when Usher and the sexiest man alive are in my living room!

5 Ways to Put some Pizzazz into your Hydration

So back when I was blogging for Chronicles of a Beauty Nerd, my friend Divya and I collaborated on a segment we called Beauty Eats.  How does “beauty” and “eating” come together, you ask?  My belief has always been that healthy skin starts from within.  By incorporating skin-nourishing ingredients into your every day diet, you can bolster the effects of the skincare products you slather on every day.  But how can we do this in a way that is enjoyable and therefore ultimately sustainable?  That’s where Divya comes in.  Divya is a true talent when it comes to concocting healthy yet delicious recipes.  Not only is she an amazing food stylist, but she is also now studying holistic nutrition.  I always turn to her for nutrition advice and ideas on how to make healthy foods more fun!  Now she is sharing all her food-related goodness on her new website, The Whole and Happy Life – so be sure to check it out!


Although I am no longer blogging for Chronicles of a Beauty Nerd (MIYU and baby have kept my hands more than full), I never wanted Beauty Eats to end.  I always knew I wanted to migrate Beauty Eats to the MIYU blog so that we can continue to share beauty-related recipes HERE, with all of you.  Well ladies and gents, I think now is the time!  Spring is fast approaching (next week to be exact) marking the season for new beginnings – a great time to jumpstart into a healthy lifestyle.  So be honest with me now… during this long, cold, dry winter – how many of you have been religiously consuming 6-8 glasses of water a day?  Remember that we need this daily dose of H2O to keep our skin hydrated and flush away unwanted toxins that can wreak havoc on our complexions. But yes, I know – downing 8 glasses of water may seem a bit boring at times (Note: this is the reason we created our hydrate mi beauty tea). But teas aside, how about a couple of ideas to give your water a flavorful boost with naturally-added antioxidants?  Here are several recipes Divya created last year for our Beauty Eats segment – all without adding any artificial flavors and sugar:


1. Green tea and lime

Preparation: Brew some good quality green tea for a few minutes (as specified on the package) and chill overnight. In the morning, mix a little lime juice and agave nectar (if desired).


2. Fruity herbal tea and frozen strawberries

Preparation: Brew some fruity herbal tea for a few minutes (as specified on the package) and allow to chill completely. Add frozen strawberries.

Note: If you’re taking this to work, I suggest using a glass flask. Stainless steel might alter the flavour of the tea.


3. Cucumber, ginger and lemon water

If you’re looking for something a little more refreshing than tea, just add cucumber slices, a small piece of ginger and some lemon juice to filtered water.  Add ice if desired.


4. Fruit juice and sparkling water

Preparation: Mix one part fruit juice (choose a brand that is made of 100% fruit juice like Ceres) and three parts sparkling water.

Note: Don’t try this with orange juice. It ends up tasting like watered down Orangina! This recipe works well with more fruity juices such as lychee, guava, pomegranate and mixed fruit juices.


5. Grape water

Preparation: Wash and cut a few handfuls of seedless white grapes in half. Freeze overnight. In the morning, pour some water into a jug or flask (if you’re taking this to work) and add a little lemon juice. Drink up after a few hours. The flavour of the grapes will infuse the water with a slightly fruity aroma. Delicious! Don’t forget to eat the grapes at the end!
